Turn down the worlds volume to hear Gods voice
Prov 10v19:”Don’t talk too much, for it fosters sin. Be sensible and turn off the flow!”
Have you ever hung up the phone and felt as if you said too much? Have you ever wished you could take back something you said? We often learn the hard way that words can cause pain and create problems. Too much talking also clutters and consumes precious time.
When we are quiet, listening to others or reflecting on our own conversations, we can see more clearly the ways that we use and abuse words. We may use words to rationalize, to lie, to deceive, or to manipulate. In silence we remember the words we speak in anger and slowly in apology, arrogantly in accusation and humbly in confession. In silence we become aware of how Satan can fill the world with such noise and confusion that we cannot hear the gentle whisper of the Lord.
Often those who have achieved great things in the world have spent significant time in intentional silence. In that silence, God has spoken and renewed them. Silence can help break the power of words over us, so that we can listen to the Word himself and be renewed as well.
To hear God’s voice, turn down the worlds volume.
In the wonderful name of Jesus , Amen
