The Danger Of Spiritual Lethargy.

“Wake up, O sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.” (Eph. 5: 14)

Abnormal sleepiness is also called lethargy. The dictionary defines this word as “apathy; lack of interest and energy.” This drowsiness can sneak up you unexpectedly and when it takes hold of your spiritual life it spells disaster for you as  well as your church.

No one deliberately wishes to be a lukewarm or weak Christian, but when your Christian standards are compromised your spiritual life will inevitably be adversely affected. It is simply a matter of time before these second-class standardsdrive out the dynamic principles of the Master. And then they become a pleasant, gentle-sounding philosophy that no longer challenges you to a life of quality and excellence.

To keep your faith alive you need to work at it constantly. It is fatal to rest on your spiritual laurels, because in the love to which God has called you there can be no vanity. How does one then sustain a living and dynamic faith? A continually deeper prayer life, an inspired and intelligent study of the Bible and participation in the fellowship of the faithful are essential factors for spiritual growth. You know all these things; the question is whether you apply them.

If every believer would wake up spiritually, the world would be on fire for Christ. It would mean the end of violence, racial tension, bitterness and avarice, and Jesus Christ would reign as King.
